F16 XDTT Mini Dome

The Air Force Research Laboratories, Warfighter Readiness Research Division in Mesa, AZ recently selected Immersive Display Solutions to upgrade several of its F-16 Experimental Deployable Tactics Trainer (X-DTT) simulators from multiple flat-panel monitors to a more immersive MiniDome display environment to support the fast-jet training at Aviano Airbase in Italy.

The F-16 X-DTTs are deployable, medium-fidelity, in-theater training systems for keeping the warfighter proficient between missions. The AFRL requirements called for a side-by-side configuration consisting of 3-meter diameter hard shell fiberglass MiniDome configurations providing 220° horizontal and 90° vertical FOV. Projection Design FL32 WUXGA projectors delivered 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution to provide an average blended resolution of 11.5 million pixels, equaling 4.8 arc-min/OLP. Scalable Display EasyBlendFX software, which is fully integrated with MetaVR’s VRSG, was used to blend all channels into a seamless image.
