Immersive Display Solutions offers several software solutions and 3rd party products to assist our customers in developing and integrating their own 3D content or image generation software. Projecting 3D content correctly onto any spherical surfaces is a requirement in order to create compelling and effective applications for a wide range of markets.
Typical video Projection Solutions display rectangular images on flat screens. However for domes, panoramas, planetariums, and other non-planar display surfaces, optical and geometric correction techniques must be employed to prevent video projected on the curved display from appearing distorted. OmniMapô and OmniMapD3D are API's for use with OmniFocusô Projection Solutions or other custom immersive projection environments that maps real-time content onto arbitrary projection surface shapes.

The OmniMap library provides developers with an easy-to-integrate solution to make their real-time OpenGL or DirectX applications compatible with all of our immersive Projection Solutions. Geometry correction routines are encapsulated in an easy-to-integrate C++ library. The pre-rendering API calls render the virtual environment into off screen temporary buffers, while the OmniMap and OmniMapD3D API's post-rendering calls account for lens optical distortion and screen geometry correction. All configuration and algorithm options are handled by configuration files and scripts to allow configuration changes without recompile. The cross-platform system is HW accelerated leveraging OpenGL 2.0, Shader Model 3.0, and Shader Model 4.0 shaders to take full advantage of new functionality provided by emerging graphics hardware.
The fulldome cinema paradigm abandons rectangular projection screens in an attempt to immerse audiences inside of an extremely wide field-of-view. Developing compelling content for this medium presents several technical and artistic challenges. The Fulldome plugin provides a straightforward way for content creators to begin developing experiences for immersive domes and 360∞ spherical displays. By seamlessly fitting into existing production pipelines via Adobe After Effects (with other applications coming soon), the plugin allows animators, compositors, and cinematographers the freedom to explore the fulldome format with their pre-rendered creations. The Fulldome plugin, version 2.0.1, is available for purchase through Immersive Display Solutions and was developed by Navegar Foundation, in collaboration with the Computer Science Department of Oporto University.
